Do the TSA Porn Scans Have a Silver Lining?

TSAscanFolks are all up in TSA’s grill about the new Rapiscan machines that see through clothing. Here are a couple recent posts and tweets on the subject I found online:

Facebook Post: Just had my first TSA full body scan at Tampa International. Not a fan of of having my most personal privacy abrogated for the the “greater good” of our national security, insult was added to injury when the TSA officer declared, “Move along, nothing to see here.”

Tweet from Alexia: No surprise that TSA porn scans wold get so much backlash — Nobody, I repeat nobody is comfortable with their body.

Reply tweet from Sarah Lane to Alexia: @alexia Silver lining: TSA has become a gym motivator for me. If I have to show them the goods, THEY WILL LIKE WHAT THEY SEE

Too funny! Does this mean TSA is now driving more business to personal trainers? Probably not, but it makes me chuckle. Alexia’s tweet is almost correct though. The vast majority of Americans are indeed uncomfortable with their body and frankly, I don’t blame them. We are now the 3rd fattest country in the world and we are only moving up on that scale.
.
Maybe the TSA scans will provide a new tipping point to motivate people to seek out resources to get leaner and fitter. Then people would find things like (ooooo, here come the shameless plugs) X Gym for the best personal training, Cracking Your Calorie Code for getting leaner, fitter and healthier, or the X Gym DVD for travel and home fitness. Those smart folks might also enjoy following xgym on Twitter and Facebook, right? Of course they would, unless they are proud of their body and don’t mind being a virtual-porn star for the TSA officer.
.
As for me, am I proud of my body? Yes. Do I want to be a TSA virtual-porn star? Not so much. My “business” is my business. The alternative they offer however, is the pat down and that can include private areas if they feel it necessary, so which would I choose if given the chance? I’m not entirely sure, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge if/when I come to it. Until then, maybe I should offer a special “fast track” membership at the X Gym for those who want to get in shape fast, not for their Hawaiian vacation, but for their virtual-disrobing on the way there…

Great thoughts and comments Gillian! Rapiscan claims, “A person would have to be inspected 1,000 times by the Secure 1000 to receive the equivalent of one typical medical chest x-ray. ” I say we are being conned. There is no way a device can burn through our clothes that easily without burning through some of our skin and tissue as well.
